Grab It, Bag It, Bin It
“Grab It, Bag It, Bin It” Litter Stations Launch
A new community-led initiative aimed at reducing loose litter in Portishead has officially launched, with the first “Grab It, Bag It, Bin It” litter station now installed on the Lake Grounds.
The project has been developed collaboratively by Turn the Tide Portishead, Gordano Breakfast Rotary Club, and local community partners, with the aim of encouraging residents and visitors to take simple actions to help keep public spaces clean.
The initiative was created in response to ongoing concerns about litter accumulation in areas with limited bin provision, and organisers hope the stations will encourage greater community involvement in caring for the local environment.
Organisers hope this will be the first of several stations introduced across the town.
“Small actions from lots of people can make a huge difference. It’s been fantastic to see local organisations, businesses and volunteers working together to create something practical and positive for Portishead.”
— Jason Sharpe, founder of a local tuition business (Mr Gillman Tuition) and one of the organisers involved in the initiative.
How It Works
The concept is straightforward: the litter stations are strategically placed where there is no bin.
1. Take a Bag
Residents can take a bag directly from the station panel.
2. Fill with Rubbish
Fill it with your rubbish
3. Dispose Responsibly
Take the filled bag and dispose of it responsibly elsewhere.
Sponsorship Support
The first station has been generously sponsored by River Axe Media, whose support helped bring the pilot project to life.
